A new cover design has been prepared for Sumotori and will appear on newly sold copies within the next two weeks. I’m very excited about the new design because I believe it captures a lot more of the intrigue and danger of the novel than the present cover does.
The new cover features a dark background with a person whose back is tattooed with a Japanese dragon. This is significant for two reasons directly related to the story. First, the name of the protagonist–Tatsuyama–means “Dragon Mountain.” Also, many of the criminals in the novel are yakuza, and historically, the yakuza have been more likely to be tattooed than just about anyone else in Japanese society.
Continuity between the current cover and the new cover has been maintained by incorporating the female figure with the katana (samurai sword). She represents a key character in the story and a particular incident involving that character.
I hope you agree with me that the new cover is a marked improvement to the book–an attractive enhancement that contributes to the mystique and overall pleasurable experience of reading Sumotori: A 21st Century Samurai Thriller.
